San Martin Airport: Skydiving

Locate skydiving operators with a current permit to jump at E16.

The following information is intended for skydiving operators that are interested in obtaining a permit to conduct jump operations at the San Martin Airport. 

1. ​A permit and fee are required prior to any skydiving activity. The permit along with all relevant documentation is now submitted via DocuSign. Get started. A sample permit​​ with exhibits is available here. The individual exhibits are listed below.

2. Insurance, as specified in the permit, must be provided at the time the permit is submitted. We have identified the following insurance carriers who will write the necessary policy, however, the permittee is free to use any insurance carrier that they wish, as long as they meet the requirements.

3. You may schedule a meeting with the Airport Director to discuss your proposed skydiving operation and the permit. To do so, contact the administration office at (408) 918-7700.
4. Within 15 calendar days from receipt of your completed Skydiving Permit application, the Airport Director will issue a written decision. Should your permit be denied, a written explanation will be provided with an opportunity for you to reapply.

In addition, the local FSDO has set up the following requirements for any skydiving operator:

1. All jumps must be conducted in full compliance with 14 CFR Part 105
2. A NOTAM must be established and published through the appropriate aeronautical entity to advise all airport users of the parachute jump activities.
3. Radio contact between the jump aircraft and NORCAL or Oakland ARTCC must be established and maintained throughout the jump activity.
4. The jump aircraft pilot will communicate with NORCAL or Oakland ARTCC and visually scan the area to ensure aircraft are not entering or maneuvering within the traffic pattern prior to authorizing jumpers to depart the aircraft.
5. Radio transmission will be conducted by the jump aircraft on the San Martin Airport advisory frequency 122.70 (CTAF/UNICOM) to alert anyone in the area that jump activities are in progress.
6. Jumpers will be briefed to maintain directional control at all times and remain clear of the runway and stay within the designated drop zone area.

 When using the Parachute Landing Zone (PLZ), be vigilant of the many obstructions surrounding the area.
