Paving project at RHV Starting 10/28/19 through 11/13/19
10/24/2019
We have an unusual opportunity next week to complete additional pavement repairs at Reid-Hillview Airport. The unusual aspect of this project is that the opportunity occurred so quickly. I realize this is very short notice, but believe that this opportunity is one that we should not miss.
The project will replace the disintegrating asphalt at the Zulu end of each hangar row and under the south facing section of the four shelter buildings. These areas are large generators of FOD and repairing them should greatly reduce the propensity for small rocks on the taxiways and taxilanes.
There are three distinct phases to this project. Phase one is to replace the asphalt at the Z end of the hangars between the ends of taxilanes H, I, J, K, L and M. It is scheduled to begin Monday 10/28 and complete by the end of the day Tuesday 10/29. During this phase, taxiway Z will be closed between H and M row and the intersections of Z and C will be closed as will the intersection of Z and D. If you have a plane parked on these rows and want to use it during this time, you are welcome to move it temporarily to an open tie-down. (see below)
Phase 2 replaces the asphalt at the Z end of the hangars between the ends of taxilanes P, Q, R, S, T and U. Phase 2 is scheduled as a one-day effort to occur on Wednesday 10/30. During this time taxiway Z will be closed between the 31 runup area and taxilane P. Taxiway A and B will also be closed to Taxiway Z. If you have an airplane parked in this area and would like to use it this week, you are welcome to move it temporarily to an open tie-down. (see below)
Phase 3 of the project will be to replace the asphalt on the southern side of the four shelter buildings. This phase will start on Wednesday 10/30 and require that all aircraft and equipment currently stored in the shelter area be temporarily moved to an open tie-down by the end of the day next Monday, 10/28. Any aircraft that have not been moved by then will be relocated by airport personnel. Due to the nature of this project, it is expected to take up to two weeks to complete. Consequently, all shelter tenants should expect to be in temporarily parking beginning Monday 10/28 or Tuesday 10/29 and not return until Wednesday 11/13.
Phase 3 will also affect access to the following hangars as large paving equipment will be working on taxilanes R and T to complete the work on the shelters: R1, R3, R5, R7, R11, R13, R15, R17, R19, T1, T3, T5, T9, T11, T13, T15, T17 and T19. If your aircraft is parked in one of these hangars and you would like to access it during the construction project, you are welcome to relocate it to an open tie-down. (see below). We expect the paving part of this phase to be completed by Friday Nov. 1st at which time access to those hangars should be restored, with intermittent taxilane blockage during the following week.
During this project, large paving equipment will be moving around the airport and utilizing taxilanes adjacent to their work area. Please exercise extreme vigilance when operating your airplane in one of these areas and plan some extra time into your schedule to accommodate the various taxiway and taxilane closures. It is also important to recognize that all of the dates provided are subject to change based on weather and a variety of circumstances.
The following tie-down spaces are currently vacant and available for your temporary use while this paving project is on-going. If you decide to use one, please send an email to [email protected] with your name, tail-number and temporarily parking space number. Airport Operations staff will then install new tie-down ropes and make sure your aircraft is secured.
