Airport update and upcoming closures for surface marking
7/13/2018
Following is a short update for the county airports.
Paving Project
The paving project at RHV and E16 was substantially completed before the Memorial Day weekend, however there were a couple of areas that needed additional work. Taxiway C between 31R and 31L had to be reconstructed, and Taxiway Z at the 31 run-up also needed additional repair work. Those repairs have since been completed. A survey crew will be onsite Monday July 16th to mark the location of new surface markings, and the painting contractor will being Tuesday July 17th and finish at Reid-Hillview on Friday July 20th. Work is expected to follow the same phasing as the paving project, with 31L and Y being completed first, then 31R and Z following by F & G. Expect rolling closures of taxiways and runways at Reid-Hillview as the striping crew completes this project.
For San Martin Airport, the schedule calls for the painting contractor to start on Monday July 23rd and finish Tuesday July 24th. You should expect the San Martin airport runway to be closed between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. If you are based at E16 and need to use your aircraft during that time, we would be happy to provide a temporary parking space for you at RHV. Send Femi Odunbaku, our Airport Operations Supervisor, an email [email protected], or call him at (408) 918-7700 x27707 to coordinate.
As always, check NOTAM’s before flying to ensure you have the most current information.
Business Plan Update
The updated business plan for Santa Clara County airports is scheduled to go to Housing Land Use Environment and Transportation (HLUET) committee on August 16th. More information about the business plan and the meeting schedule can be found on our website.
Light Rail Extension
VTA has begun the process of extending Light Rail down the middle of Capitol Expressway. Their current schedule calls for final design in late summer 2019, utility relocation in 2019 and 2020 and construction beginning early 2020 and completing in the fall of 2023. If you drive to the Reid-Hillview airport often, you may want to familiarize yourself with the project on the VTA website. http://www.vta.org/projects-and-programs/transit/eastridge-to-bart-regional-connector
