1. Reid-Hillview redevelopment study 

Share your ideas for the Reid-Hillview Airport site!

Two dates have been selected for public input on the County study of the potential reuse of Reid-Hillview Airport.  The meeting dates are Tuesday, February 25 and Wednesday, March 18th.  The meetings are from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and both will be held at Overfelt High School in the Multi-Purpose Room (Bldg. F, Room F5).  The school is located at 1835 Cunningham Ave., San Jose, CA  95122.  For more information on the meetings, see the meeting website:  Fleets and facilities site.

 

2. San Martin FBO lease

We will be holding a meeting at San Martin Airport on Tuesday, March 3rd, from 10:30 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. to discuss upcoming changes to the E16 FBO lease.  You are encouraged to attend and let us know what is important to you in a new FBO.  The meeting will be held in one of the county-owned hangars at San Martin.  Look for signs when you arrive.

3. Skydiving at San Martin Airport

We have issued a skydiving permit to California Skydiving Center to begin operations on February 28th.  They have worked very hard with the County to comply with the permit requirements and we are looking forward to seeing them in operation.  Keep an eye out for them in the future, and feel free to drop by to say hi.  They would be happy to hear from you.  If you have any questions about their operation, they can be reached at [email protected], (800) 386-5867 or visit their website at www.1800funjump.com.

4. Reid-Hillview pilot/controller forum

On March 9 at 7:00 P.M., the FAA will be hosting a meeting in the RHV lobby to discuss airport safety.  The discussion will identify “hot spots” on the airport and procedures that may have led to surface incidents and incursions in the past.  All pilots that operate at RHV are welcome and encouraged to attend.  For more information, read this FAA invitation​.

5. Reid-Hillview runway safety action team (RSAT)

The following day, March 10,  at 10:00 A.M., the FAA will sit down with airport staff and airport stakeholders to discuss runway safety at Reid-Hillview.  You are welcome and encouraged to attend, however, please RSVP with the local RHV ATCT manager, Tommy Singleton at [email protected].  Include your name, the name of the organization you represent (if applicable), your phone number and email address, and the names of anybody that will be attending with you.  Space is limited for this meeting, so please RSVP early.  

6. Taxiway Z reflectors at RHV

Updated Reflectors

We have received a few complaints that the new reflectors along taxiway Z are not reflective enough.  We sent a couple back to the manufacturer for testing.  They indicated that sections of the reflector had degraded, which they attributed to blowing dust on the field.  The supplier then recommended a different reflective material and provided several samples for us to try. We have recovered the reflectors directly in front of the terminal (between D and E) with this slightly different, more abrasion-resistant material.  Before we purchase enough of the reflective tape to recover all of the reflectors, I would greatly appreciate your input.  The next time you are out at night, check out the difference between the newly recovered reflectors and those between A and D then let me know what you think.  Can you tell a difference?  

7. Swift lane closure

Future Swift Lane Closure

We will be closing access between Swift Lane and Tully Avenue in the near future. The EPA recently released a report that shows the potential for airborne lead exposure, directly behind the 31 runup area,  that is greater than that recommended by the National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS).  To ensure that no members of the public are exposed to potentially unhealthy levels of airborne lead, we will be fencing off this section of the road.   You can click on the image to see a larger map.
